Mcleans Island,
known as the 'Island Line'
Run Days - 1st & 3rd sunday of the month,
71/4 inch guage track, and is over 1km of mainline.

The club was started in January 2000, on land already occupied by the Steam Preservation Society. They have approx. 32 acres of land which has 3ft 6in. guage track around its perimeter.
We have signed a lease for 10=10 yrs and have a large array of track layed. The first loop conprises of a loop of about 550 metres, bent slightly in the middle with several traction engine crossings and a 9mtr bridge. The second section has a length of another 500 mtrs, and heads out toward the road, wandering it's way through a forest like setting, through a tunnel and stopping at the station.
The ticket box comprises of a NZR guards van been modified for the purpose. It then heads out around over a crossing and over an incline, this section can be a challenge to many drivers. Along the way around there are several bypass loops and alternate lines and you also pass several water towers and controlled crossings.
The steaming bays consist of a turntable, loading and unloading hoist, an ash pit, and loco storage sheds, as well as trolley storage.

FACILITIES:

Parking: Generally there is a large space to park on the grounds, and store trailors.
Toilets: Public toilets are situated near our railroad track in the forest.
Off loading: This is done using our in ground hoist, and is a reasonably quick operation.
Steaming area: There are 8 main tracks, that can be used while you prepare your loco for running.
Moving onto the track: This will be in the hands of the signalman. He will be in control at all times and must be obeyed.
Courtesy: There is a comprehensive signal system, which helps and assist drivers, selects the desired points and helps make the journey more enjoyable.
Safety: Vigilance must be kept on all matters of safety. Safety chains must be used between the loco and passenger cars and preferably through-out the whole train. Brakes must be fitted that are adequate to stop the train quickly. Steam locos must have a current boiler certificate. Children and unauthorised persons must be kept out of the preparation area. Any accidents shall be reported to station staff.
General Information: We have at present nine locos and have six under construction. We have ride in NZR Df with a 3 cycl kubota diesel driving through a variable hydraulic pump to motors mounted on the bogies. This was built by Ken Sullivan, one of our members. We also have several American locos, as well as petrol electrics. We also have three steam trains at present.

We hope that this information is helpful and welcome everyone who visits.
